Data VoIP Solutions- The Newest IP Telephony Technology

Information on how these two systems work:  Without broadband, Internet Telephones  would not be economically viable or attractive to customers.

DATA VoIP SOLUTIONS:  THE MYTHS

Myths have arisen around the concept and introduction of data VoIP solutions. Here are some of them, and our comments on them. The information provided may assist you in your decision regarding data VoIP solutions for your business, and the use of internet IP telephony in general.

MYTH 1

A data VoIP solution to my communications problem is not viable until standards have been qualified and achieved.

The Facts: There is a concern that IP communications are too new for standards to have matured and become accepted, and that investment in data VoIP solutions should be held until standards have been perceived as being sufficient to justify the technology.

This myth has come about due to the apparent mysticism of the development of telecommunications systems over time, and data VoIP solutions to business problems are regarded as being one of the more mystical. There is a concern that investment in IP telephony solutions at this time will be wasted if the technology changes in the short term. After all, look at computers. Buy one today and it is obsolete tomorrow. In fact, standard for IP telephony have been in place for some time now, and while it is certain that IP and SIP technology will progress, this will be the case at any snapshot in time over the foreseeable future, not just with regard to VoIP solutions, but to technology in general.

SIP which handles the connections, has also developed hugely over the past two years and there are now fewer connection problems than there have been.

MYTH 2

IP phones are more expensive than normal phones, so the use of data VoIP solutions in my business will cost more.

The Facts: True, IP telephone handsets are more expensive than the normal telephone, but a large part of the total cost of the system is in the handset, unlike traditional circuit switched systems where the costs lie elsewhere. In fact, an IP telephone costs no more than an ordinary desk digital phone set. If the costs of the total package are considered, rather than just the visible part, the handset, the adoption of data VoIP solutions can save a company a considerable amount of money. There are many instances where a company’s total telephone system, including video, faxing and conference facilities, has been replaced with IP systems, saving companies many hundreds of thousands of pounds. Not only this, but Data VoIP solutions are ultimately more flexible, and provide a wider variety of options and possibilities, than standard PSTN telephone systems.

MYTH 3

There is no single essential application for IP Communications. Should corporations not wait until that application is identified before making the switch to an IP communications system?

The Facts:Why should there be? Many applications save money and improve communications between varied data needs. The strength of an IP system lies in the voice, video and data VoIP solutions that can be converged and integrated with existing applications and systems.

Data VoIP solutions can provide integrated access to a variety of data sources such as stock markets, emails, inventories and other database systems. There is no need to wait for an essential or compelling application.

MYTH 4

IP systems are not secure.

MYTH 5

Vonage are the best providers.

This is another myth.  My feeling is that they are not close.  I contacted Vonage three times regarding featuring on this site and never received an answer.  If that's the way they treat someone wanting to promote their product, how will they treat a customer with a serious problem, perhaps requiring a refund?

No, they are not close.  All other companies gave me all the cooperation they could.  Don't buy from them.
